Top Computers Page
From Unofficial BOINC Wiki
Contents |
[edit] General
This page contains a list of the computers that are generating the most Results for the BOINC Powered Project. As always, where permitted by Preference Settings, there are links out to the computer's actual description. The Participant's "Account Data" Page and a link icon for accessing their "Profile" Page are also displayed if a Profile is available..
So, you can use this to determine how those cheaters …, ahem, those other Participants are getting all the work processed.
The initial display of this page shows the computers ranked, from top to the bottom of the list by their Recent Average Credit. The "Total Credit" column has a URL link as a column header. If this link is clicked, the sort of the data will now be based upon the Total Credit, as is shown in the second example.
It is a little confusing at first, but the sort is always by which ever of the two columns "Recent Average Credit" or "Total Credit" does not have the URL link.
Just as obviously, clicking on the link will give you the data sorted by the name of the link that you click.
Since we had clicked on the link, now the link is on the "Recent Average Credit" and the data is sorted on Recent Average Credit and clicking on that link will then resort the data based on the values of "Total Credit".
- Note:
- That only one link will be active at any one time. If "Recent Average Credit" is the active link then the data is sorted by "Total Credit" and this link will not be active.
- If the "Total Credit" is the active link then the data is sorted by "Recent Average Credit" and this link will not be active.
- By clicking on the links at the top of the page you can change the sort order from one that is based on "Recent Average Credit" to a sort order based on "Total Credit"; as shown in this second example; and back again.
At the bottom of the page is a link that will get the next 20 computers in the list so that you can browse down to the lowest one listed.
[edit] Column by Column
[edit] Computer ID
This is a unique identifier for the computer that processed this Result. The Computer ID is a link to the descriptive record for the computer/host that processed this Result. Obviously, clicking on the link will take you to the page that will list the characteristics of the Participant's Computer. In some cases the link will not be there because the Result was not needed.
Clicking on one of the links will take you to the "Computer Summary" Page for the Participant's Computer that was assigned the Result.
[edit] Rank
The location of the Participant within the list. Their lineal ranking. Note that this number will change for a Participant when the sorting of the list is changed.
[edit] Owner
This column contains the name of the owner (the person or Participant that has registered this computer as part of their Account, so, this may not be the "real life" owner of the machine) if they are not anonymous, otherwise it will contain a link to the "Account Data" Page { Icon, Link to Documentation page. | Icon, Link to Project Web Site. } for the user.
Note: A Participant becomes anonymous in this list if they have "hidden" their computers using the Preference Setting in the "Project Preferences" { Icon, Link to Documentation page. | Icon, Link to Project Web Site. } . Also, if the Participant has created a "Profile" Page { Icon, Link to Documentation page. | Icon, Link to Project Web Site. } , that is indicated by the the little "head". Clicking on this, will, of course, take you to the page that will display that Participant's Profile.
[edit] Recent Average Credit
The Recent Average Credit line shows a value that reflect the processing done (the number of "Cobblestones") for the preceding week or two by this specific computer. Note that if the computer has not been returning Results this value may be "stuck" showing an artificially high value.
This value is like a speedometer reading. See these Glossary entries for more details:
Recent Average Credit, Computation_of_Credit, Cobblestone, Whetstone_Benchmark, Dhrystone_Benchmark
[edit] Total Credit
The Total Credit line shows a value that reflect the processing done over the "life" of the computer while processing Work Units within the BOINC Powered Project. This is the accumulation of the Total Credit earned by this specific machine.
- Note:
- If the computer has been "merged" or has just been created by the Scheduling Server (even if there is another computer of the same name in the Account), it is possible that this will not be the real "Total Credit" earned by the machine. In other words, the bookkeeping may be off a little. Your Total Credit for the Account will be unaffected by this error.
[edit] CPU Type
The name of the type of the Central Processing Unit (CPU) that is installed in the computer. One of the reasons for keeping this data is the possible need to determine if some of the science that was done may have been compromised by the Physical Processor.
For Apple computers, you can look up the CPU name listed in this field and associate it to actual "CPU Type Names" using the "Apple CPU Type to Computer Type Cross-Reference Matrix".
[edit] Operating System
This lists the Operating System that is being used along with other identification data indicating the exact version, Service Pack level, and "build" level. Each of the major Operating Systems will have their own format for the data. In the examples you will see information for at least the [[WP: Win}}, and Apple Macintosh OS-X Operating Systems.
