Top Teams Page
From Unofficial BOINC Wiki
Contents |
[edit] General
This page contains a list of the Teams and ranks them according to the amount of Credit that the Team has accumulated. The team list can be sorted using either of the two links at the top allowing you to see which Team is ahead in "Recent Average Credit" or "Total Credit".
Clicking on the links for the Team's Name will take you to the "Team Information" Page where the basic information about that Team is available.
At the bottom of the page is a link that will get the next 20 Teams in the list so that you can browse down to the lowest Team on the list and join them, because they do need our help … and probably desperately so …
The initial display of this page shows the Teams ranked, from top to the bottom of the list by their Recent Average Credit. The "Total Credit" column has a URL link as a column header. If this link is clicked, the sort of the data will now be based upon the Total Credit, as is shown in the second example.
It is a little confusing at first, but the sort is always by which ever of the two columns "Recent Average Credit" or "Total Credit" does not have the URL link.
Just as obviously, clicking on the link will give you the data sorted by the name of the link that you click.
Since we had clicked on the link, now the link is on the "Recent Average Credit" and the data is sorted on Recent Average Credit and clicking on that link will then resort the data based on the values of "Total Credit".
- Note:
- That only one link will be active at any one time. If "Recent Average Credit" is the active link then the data is sorted by "Total Credit" and this link will not be active.
- If the "Total Credit" is the active link then the data is sorted by "Recent Average Credit" and this link will not be active.
- By clicking on the links at the top of the page you can change the sort order from one that is based on "Recent Average Credit" to a sort order based on "Total Credit"; as shown in this second example; and back again.
[edit] Column by Column
[edit] Rank
This is the lineal list number, or rank order that is occupied by the particular Team.
[edit] Name
This column contains the name of the Team. Clicking on the link with the Team Name will take you to the "Team Information" Page.
[edit] Members
This column contains the number of members that belong to the Team.
[edit] Recent Average Credit
This column contains the amount of Recent Average Credit has been earned by the Team. Note that this will likely fluctuate because of the way that Credit is granted. So, you may see different Teams at different spots in the list as these numbers are recalculated. Note also that the RAC may fluctuate because of the computers being used by the Team members to contribute to multiple projects.
This number is expressed in Cobblestones.
[edit] Total Credit
This column contains the amount of Total Credit that has been earned by the Team up to this date.
This number is expressed in Cobblestones.
[edit] County
This column identifies the country that the Team Founder has selected, if any, so that you can see where this Team intends to gather members. Keep in mind, that some Teams are country oriented, but I doubt that any Team will refuse a Participant that desires to join a Team.
Use of the country "International" means that the Team Members may come from any country in the world.
[edit] Other Page Features
Since there may be more than 20 rows of data to look at, we need a way to advance to the next set of data that is available. To do this we have a link at the bottom of the page, usually the bottom left side, and it will say " Next 20" if we are on the first page. For all other pages it will say "Last 20 | Next 20". Clicking on these links will move you forward or backwards in the data set.
[edit] Notes, Oddities, and "Watch Out For This"
- One of the differences with SETI@Home Classic Project, and most other of the "old-style" Distributed Computing projects is the way that the Teams will accumulate and retain the Credit granted. In the "old-style" projects, when a Participant joined a Team, all the Credit that they possessed were added to the Team's Total Credit balance.
When a Participant left the Team, all the accumulated Credit also left the Team's Total Credit balance. Some, ahem, of the Participants used their high Credit balances to "force" changes in the Team's charter, community, etc. because their leaving would cause the Team's Total Credit accumulation to suffer severe hits if Participants left. So, they could "blackmail" the Team to get their selfish way …
With the BOINC System, the Team's Total Credit balance is increased each time a Team Member earns Credit. Any Credit earned prior to joining the Team by a Participant is not added to the Team's Total Credit balance. When a Participant leaves the Team, the Credit earned while a member of that Team remains with the Team.
Changing a Team does not alter the Participant's own accumulated Total Credit.
