Benchmark Failure
From Unofficial BOINC Wiki
Contents |
[edit] Description/General
The Benchmark programs are run after stopping the Science Application programs. 10 seconds is allowed for this. Sometimes BOINC detects a failure to stop the program at the end of this 10 seconds. If this happens BOINC should then restart the projects without running the benchmarks. Unfortunately sometimes the computer is left doing nothing.
[edit] Version Information
[edit] Found in version
- V 4.X
[edit] Fixed in version
- V 5.x
[edit] Affected Projects
- Certainly Climateprediction.net
- Compound Applications seem to be a common factor.
- Perhaps others if BOINC has difficulty detecting whether program has exited.
[edit] Detection
Project(s) probably shown as running, however the time running and time to completion do not change. The computer may be colder than usual and the CPU usage is low instead of the normal 95%+. The problem starts after you get some messages like this:
17/07/2005 16:05:48|climateprediction.net|Pausing result 45z1_000294637_0 (removed from memory) 17/07/2005 16:05:50||Running CPU benchmarks 17/07/2005 16:05:58||Aborting CPU benchmarks, one or more active tasks are still running. 17/07/2005 16:05:58||Resuming computation and network activity 17/07/2005 16:05:58||request_reschedule_cpus: Resuming activities 17/07/2005 16:05:58||request_reschedule_cpus: process exited
[edit] Troubleshooting Process
Check whether time running and time to completion are changing even when program is shown as running.
[edit] Actions
[edit] Corrective Actions
Exit BOINC and restart it. This is a quick fix but does not prevent reoccurence.
[edit] Preventive actions
Upgrade to Version 5.x
