Build Number

A tracking number that is used by a software development staff to identify a specific version of a software product. The build numbers may have various codes or numbers with separators to identify major versions and minor versions (with this usually reserved for Bug fixes).

There is another system of numbering which is called a Version Number and it may, or may not, have any direct or indirect attachment to a specific build number; that is just to make it easier on us when we attempt to determine what our computer stopped working.
