File Server
From Unofficial BOINC Wiki
[edit] General
A Server that acts as a repository of information that is usually unstructured (to the point that many times valuable information is effectively lost). The only structure elements are the file and folder names and possibly organizational policies directed towards codifying a standard structure. However, all organization schemes on a typical file server is usually followed only by accident because there is no rule based system to enforce organization on the data stored on a File Server.
This server is the most commonly experienced by people within an organization as "shared" or "mapped" drives on the corporate servers.
