Floating-Point Operation
From Unofficial BOINC Wiki
[edit] General
A single mathematical calculation using Floating Point numbers. The speed at which these operations can be carried out by the Central Processing Unit of a computer is one of the measurements of its quality. The faster the computer can produce a result for these calculations the better it is considered to be in overall quality.
This speed is measured in FLOPS (FLoating-point OPerations per Second).
The "traditional" Benchmark program used to measure the speed of Floating-Point Operations is the Whetstone Benchmark.
