[edit] General

A relatively recent (in terms of the history of computers) Hard disk drive with the built-in electronics necessary for use on a computer. This is the most commonly used interface for the hard disk drives and CD-ROM drives of most personal computers. This term also refers to the Personal Computer interface through which the disk drives connect. This interconnection method is less expensive than SCSI, and offers slightly less in terms of performance. Sometimes called Advanced Technology Attachment.
