Welcome to the Unofficial BOINC Wiki!

BOINC, short for Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing, is open source software for volunteer and grid computing. Its used by science research projects like SETI@Home, Rosetta@home, World Community Grid, Climateprediction.net and many other Universities and Organizations around the world.

Volunteers can download the BOINC software, attach to one or more of these science projects and participate in the science research. The BOINC software will run on any type of computer and just operates in the background and wont effect your normal computer use. Why leave a computer idle when it could be doing something beneficial for science?

The Unofficial BOINC Wiki! is designed to be a central website for information about BOINC software and BOINC Powered Projects. This covers all levels of information from help for volunteers wanting to get started, to information for software developers and research scientists. With many websites collecting information about BOINC powered projects and the software, information goes out of date very quickly. Bringing all the information together in one website makes keeping information updated much easier. Everyone is welcome to use this wiki to record information about BOINC powered projects and the software.
