The word Message has a few definitions in the BOINC world.

1. Communications from one computer to another. This form of Message is normally accomplished using a file or file transfer.
2. Communications from one process to another on the same computer. This form of Message most often uses Shared Memory. Examples of this type include the interactions of the BOINC Client Software and the Science Applications.
3. Status and error information displayed to the Participant in the Messages Tab of the BOINC Manager or in log files.
