Moving BOINC Installation Between Computers

It is possible to move the existing BOINC installation when the computer where BOINC is currently installed is known to be unable to run BOINC in the future.

• Stop BOINC completely.
• Copy BOINC folder (usually, C:\progam files\boinc\ in Microsoft Windows®) to the new computer to the desired location.
• Download latest BOINC and install it to the folder you copied previous installation to.
• Start BOINC in the new computer and make sure BOINC does not start in the old one anymore to ensure no more communication with the projects.
• Manually run the benchmarks so that you get the accurate credit amount for your work. (You can skip this step if you installed a different version than the old one - BOINC will run the becnhmarks itself in such case)

By now you should have a running BOINC in the new computer, retaining all work. The host record in the project's sites will be updated to reflect your new configuration during the next communication session.

The new host can have a completely different configuration, but should be the same platform as the old one.
