[edit] General

Welcome to the Unofficial BOINC Wiki!

BOINC is an open source software platform to allow distributed computing projects like SETI@Home and Climateprediction.net (CPDN) which use volunteered computer resources to run. Why leave a computer idle when it could be doing something beneficial?

Now you can participate in scientific research! If you own a computer (Microsoft Windows®, Apple Mac OS X, Linux or Unix) install the BOINC Client Software and you can help scientific research projects in many areas of science and for university research projects located all over the world.

This Wiki is designed to be a central repository for information about the BOINC System and BOINC Powered Projects. This covers all levels information from help for a novice Participant wanting to get started, to developers for a BOINC Powered Project, and even the BOINC Developers. With lots of disparate websites for all of the varied aspects of the BOINC System and the BOINC Powered Projects, information can get spread around and there can be cases of different versions of the same information that are each out of date to different extents. Bringing all the information together makes linking and keeping information updated much easier and helps reduce the workload for time stressed project developers. Therefore, it is an aim to get everyone involved with the BOINC System to use this Wiki as much as possible for documentation in place of their individual websites.
