[edit] General

Climateprediction.net (CPDN) Models are divided into phases. In the standard experiment there are 3 phases:

  • The first phase is used to measure what Flux Adjustments (or heat flows) there need to be between ocean and atmosphere to keep the system stable.
  • The second phase tests whether the measured Flux Adjustments do actually work to keep the system stable.
  • The third phase (and subsequent phases if any) then try out a Forcing on the system. In the standard experiment, this is a doubling of Carbon Dioxide.
  • In the Thermohaline Circulation Experiment, the fourth phase keeps Carbon Dioxide doubled and also imposes a 50% slowdown of the Thermohaline Circulation.
