Platform Name

A text string that identifies a Platform. The name is a identification of a computing environment (a machine) using a specific Operating System.

Known Platform Names include:

• windows_intelx86 for Windows 32 bit
• windows_x86_64 for Windows 64 bit
• x86_64-pc-linux-gnu for Linux 64 bit
• i686-pc-linux-gnu for Linux and FreeBSD 32 bit
• i686-apple-darwin for MAC Intel
• powerpc-apple-darwin for PowerPC-based Macs running OS X
