PrimeGrid
PrimeGrid - http://www.primegrid.com/ - Prime Numbers are of great interest to mathematicians for a variety of reasons. Primes also play a central role in the cryptographic systems which are used for computer security. Through the study of Prime Numbers it can be shown how much processing is required to crack an encryption code and thus to determine whether current security schemes are sufficiently secure.

[edit] More about PrimeGrid

PrimeGrid is currently under development, as is PerlBOINC. PrimeGrid is a PerlBOINC testing project, trying to deal with RSA Factoring Challenge - trying to split the 193-digit number into two factors that multiplied form the original number. The resources needed are very big, and we focus more on the PerlBOINC scheduler system than application optimisation, however, if we are very lucky, we will find the number - the application is fully working. See RSA Labs website for more technical information about RSA Factoring Challenge.

PerlBOINC is an attempt to implement BOINC System in Perl programming language.
