Quorum Rules

The Project's specific requirements for establishing the "ground rules" surrounding the scientific effort. The Quorum Rules normally include:
- The number of times that a Work Unit will be issued to Participants for processing.
- The minimum number of Valid Results that must be within the Quorum of Results.
- The maximum number of times that a Work Unit will be issued before giving up. This is the "special case" where the Project does not seem to be getting Results returned that can be Validated.
More generally, this means:
The number of times that a Work Unit has to be successfully processed to an error free Result before a Quorum of Results can be established (created). This means that the Project can set a Policy, or rule, that defines how many times a specific Work Unit will have to be processed to completion and the Results Validated before a Quorum of Results can be created. So, what does that mean in practical terms? It means that some projects may decide that the Work Unit only has to be processed only once to an error free, and thus a Validated Result, thereby creating the Quorum of Results and to permit the Work Unit to be "retired". More commonly, Work Units will be processed two or three times at most. In some cases, it is likely that much higher numbers may be required.
Note that the return of a Result with error conditions that prevent it from being Validated will mean that that specific Result cannot be considered for membership in the Quorum of Results.
