[edit] General

A measurement of the rotational speed of an object that is, of course, rotating. In the case of the BOINC Client Software and all of the Science Application this figure of merit is only of interest as it relates to the speed at which the Disk Drive spins.

In the case of Disk Drives there are several figures of merit of interest, and these are, of course:

  • Disk spindle speed, measured in RPM, bigger numbers are better, and
  • Disk seek speed, measured in milliseconds, smaller numbers are better, and
  • Disk cache size, measured in megabytes, bigger numbers are better, and
  • Disk capacity, measured in gigabytes, bigger numbers are better.
