Stopping and Restarting The BOINC Daemon, Microsoft Windows® "Service-Type" Install

This guide is based on Microsoft Windows® XP. However, it should work with all Versions of Microsoft Windows® 2000 and later.
[edit] Preconditions
In order to complete the procedure outlined in this guide, you must meet the following preconditions:
- You must have an operational computer.
- You must have successfully intalled the BOINC Client Software as a "Service Type" insallation.
[edit] Explanation
To effect many settings the BOINC Daemon must be stopped and restarted. This is because some of the configuration files are only read when the BOINC Daemon starts.
[edit] Stopping And Restarting The Service
On the Microsoft Windows® Taskbar, click on "Start".
In the pop-up menu, click on "Run...".
In the dialog, type services.msc, then click on "Ok" or depress the "Enter/Return" on the keyboard.
[edit] Open BOINC Properties
In the dialog window, in the "Name" column, find the "BOINC" entry and double-click it.
[edit] Stop the Service
Double-click on the "BOINC" entry in the services list. In the window that opens, click the "Stop" button.
[edit] Stopping the BOINC Daemon (Service)
This will show a progress dialog as Windows® attempts to stop the service, showing elapsed time with a progress bar.
[edit] Restarting
Next you click the "Start" button, where you will get a new progress bar and the BOINC Daemon (service) restarts. Click "OK" to finish.
Close the "Services" dialog by using the "File Menu/Exit Option" or the "Close" icon (red "X") for the window.
