From Unofficial BOINC Wiki
Hello! I do a great deal of web design as a sort of hobby. My knowledge in this area includes PHP/MySQL development. I do attempt to follow web standards by keeping major projects validated against the XHTML standard and keeping websites accessible to as many browsers as possible. Much of my past web projects have dealt with using dynamic page technology to enhance the experience a user gets from a website.
[edit] BOINC
I'm quite interested in BOINC for a number of reasons. In approximate order of decreasing importance, they are:
- Contributing to research for scientists who are usually unable to get sufficient computing resources otherwise
- Learning a great deal about the science behind each project that I attach to
- Knowing that my PCs are doing something useful even though I may not be
- Seeing the published results of a project, which is the culmination of the combined effort of all the participants of that project
- A benchmark for measuring PC performance, when upgrading or tweaking hardware and software
- Last but not least, credits :)
In my stats you'll notice I've joined a wide array of projects. I like checking out the new projects and their purpose for using BOINC.
I've developed a special purpose signature for RieselSieve, which displays your factors found in addition to the stats provided by similar stats signatures. In addition you can see the BOINC tasks I'm running at this moment between all my hosts by checking out my neat signature graphic.
My account on BOINC is relatively new but I've been involved with the distributed computing concept since back when SETI Classic was still around.
[edit] My hosts
- 1.73 GHz Core Duo T2250 "Yonah", 1.5GB DDR2 RAM, Windows XP
- 3.6 GHz Pentium 4 HT 560 "Prescott", 1 GB DDR RAM, Windows XP
- 1.5 GHz Pentium 4 "Willamette", 512 MB SDRAM, Windows XP
- 300 MHz Pentium II "Klamath", 384 MB SDRAM, Debian Linux
And coming soon is another laptop on order, whose specs are: 2 GHz Core 2 Duo T7200 "Merom", 2 GB DDR2 RAM, Windows Vista
[edit] My stats
Feel free to check out my BOINC statistics via my BOINCStats detailed stats page. Don't believe my top 5 days information since I've had a number of CPID "events" since I've started, which have unfortunately fouled up my personal records a bit. I've been a bit reluctant/lazy to do a full reset of that table. I wish BOINCstats would try to temporarily group broken CPIDs itself by matching accounts that have a credit drop with the new accounts formed that day with the same username/country/hosts/credit gain/etc. I'm convinced at the moment that other stats sites are doing this.
