[edit] General
A device that converts the signals used on a cable TV network to a data format that can be used by a computer system. At the same time it converts the computers data stream to a format that can travel on the cable network's wires. Because the technologies in a cable system allow many signals to exist at the same time the network can carry both your favorite shows and still have room enough to carry information back and forth between the various computers connected on this network.
This is one of the alternatives that allows relatively inexpensive, but high speed access to the InternetInternet.
